Funds are raised for the upkeep of this historic building to ensure its fabric is kept in good order so that it can continue to serve the Crewkerne community. The building comprises four residential units: three apartments and a cottage in the garden, all of which produce an annual rental income which aids the costs of upkeep. The Hall rentals to both regular users and those who hire the facilities for parties, anniversaries or other events generates further income. The Trustees arrange regular fund-raising events such as Tea-Dances and an annual Music Event in the garden in the summer.
The Speedwell Hall has been the beneficiary of grants from The Crewkerne Town Council and South Somerset District Council which have helped to pay for specific items such as renewing chairs and in particular replacing the floor of the hall. The floor was replaced in August 2019 and greatly enhanced the quality and appearance of the Main Hall. The Trustees have also successfully applied to local businesses who kindly offer grants to local charitable enterprises.
The Speedwell Hall was selected to benefit from the Co-operative Community Fund for 2019. Generous donations from both individuals and Grant awarding organisations has enabled The Speedwell to undertake this long overdue programme of improvements and refurbishment. The News section of the website details the radical improvements and updates now made to the Main Hall in August 2020.
